Merseyside Polonia , is hosting the Polish Autumn Fest, the biggest Polish literature festival in UK. On the 10th of October Liverpool will welcome the visit of the renown Polish writer, Pawel Huelle who comes to the Toxteth Library at 6.30 to present his new book, the ‘Cold Sea Stories’. When England is under the weather and we are desperately looking for some warmth we may want to confine in a cosy evening read. This is exactly what Huelle’s writing offers.
The book presented at the event is a collection of stories from the Baltic Coast drawing on a variety of topics like: migration, ancient history, fantasy or political change. All characterised by author’s captivating power of observation and an effortless ability to bring characters to life.
“I am a man of the Baltic, I belong to the culture of the north, which is …melancholy, nostalgic…and is the place that has shaped me” explains Pawel. Huelle has found himself drawn into the world of literature when during his childhood he went through a bed confining illness. The engaging and pleasant style of writing he developed can easily captivate the imagination of the most demanding reader.
The event is organised by ComaPress and Merseyside Polonia and supported by the Polish Cultural Institute, Polish Book Institute, Arts Council England and Wspolnota Polska. Pawel Huelle will be in conversation with an award-winning translator of the Polish literature, Antonia Lloyd-Jones followed up by Q&A session and book signing.
The event is hosted by Merseyside Polonia. This Polish organisation focused on developing good relations between locals and the Polish people in Merseyside, has yet again participated in bringing the finest of the Polish culture to Liverpool. The event is free. All are welcome.
